New Year Wreath & Girl (Extra Large)

Artist's notes on style, materials and inspiration:

A lot of Japanese New Year decorations are made with natural materials such as dried grasses which tend to get a little battered after a while. I wanted to make some versions that would be a little more hard wearing (and allow for a wood girl to join in of course!)

A large hand painted plywood New Year decoration - a little wood girl has dressed herself up with an orange for a hat and a fern painted body so that she can join in the festivities to welcome in the New Year. Ready to hang (indoors - not suitable for outdoors).
Hand painted and finished in a matt acrylic protective top coat.

My pieces are painted in a naïve and simple style, with visible brush strokes and differing paint consistencies. It is important to note that these decorations are made from 6mm plywood which will have a naturally occurring surface roughness - please make sure you consult the pictures carefully before purchasing.

PLEASE NOTE: Wood pieces should be kept away from water which can damage the wood and painted surface, and also away from direct heat/ sunlight which also can affect the surface colour and the timber itself.
