Artist's notes on style, materials and inspiration:

Standing at just over half a metre tall, and one of the tallest girls I make - this wood girl celebrates my absolute love of yōkai culture and imagery. She balances on her head six different yokai; From the top down are: a kappa (complete with a tiny kappa to sit in the head dish), a red oni demon, a chochin-obake (torn paper lantern ghost), a hitotsumekozo (one-eyed monk), a long nosed tengu, and a zashiki warashi (parlour child). The girl has suitably red rimmed ghost eyes and has a kasa-obake (torn umbrella ghost) as a dress - with a huge tongue sticking out that holds another tiny kasa-obake wood girl.

Turned from American Tulipwood, a sustainable and interestingly grained timber, the pieces are turned by a production wood turner in the UK to my designs, then painted by me, a British artist. They are finished in a matt acrylic protective top coat.

This extra large wood girl is approximately 53.5cm in height.

My pieces are painted in a naïve and simple style, with visible brush strokes and differing paint consistencies. It is important to note that these dolls are made from real wood which will have naturally occurring markings and grain, and sometimes there will be small amount of bleeding along the grain, or knots, which is to be expected when using untreated wood - please make sure you consult the pictures carefully before purchasing. She has been finished in a top coat of matt acrylic.

PLEASE NOTE: Wood girls should be kept away from water which can damage the wood and painted surface, and also away from direct heat/ sunlight which also can affect the surface colour and the timber itself.

This piece may be sent by courier due to its size.
